Christmas Cookie Tradition

What's in a Tradition?

So my mother participated in the Great Christmas Cooking tradition and continued it with all the girls in my family. Some may find it sexist but one day in December all the girls in the family (including significant others) get together to make cookies. And they are DELICIOUS!

So I'm going to share some of my tried and true with you all. I'm not a food blogger so I won't even try - but enjoy the cookies!

Buck-Eye Balls

This is a large recipe and the ingredients do not need to be perfect.

  • 2 lbs of Peanut Butter
  • 2 lbs of Powdered Sugar
  • 2/4 lb of softened butter
  • Mix together and add mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

Then melt milk or semi-sweet chocolate and dip it in. If you need to make the chocolate runny add shortening to it.

Chocolate Nut Logs (without the Nuts)

Heat oven to 350. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

  • 3/4 cup softened butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg

Cream until light

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Mix separately, then add to first mixture, using hand mix until well blended.

Stir in 1/2 cup semi-sweet mini chocolate morsels.

Shape into 2 inch logs or flat mounds

Melt remaining semi-sweet chocolate morsels and 1 tbsp shortening.

Dip cookies 3/4 of the way into the chocolate. Let harden.

Mint Chocolate Delights w/Drizzle

This makes 24 cookies and they are quickly devoured. So we normally triple.

Combine then set aside.

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) softened butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Beat then add one egg. Beat then add another egg for a total of two eggs.

Gradually beat in flour mixture.

  • one 12 oz bag of semi-sweet morsels
  • Container of Andes candies (chopped) or one 12 oz bag of mint chocolate chips.

Bake in oven. Cool.
